'Viriditas' Original Oil Painting

$14,000.00

'Viriditas' 24x20 inches, oil on aluminum composite panel.

Viriditas (Latin, literally “greenness,” formerly translated as “viridity”[1]) is a word meaning vitality, fecundity, lushness, verdure, or growth.

The science fiction author Kim Stanley Robinson used ‘Viriditas’ quasi-theologically to mean “the green force of life, expanding into the Universe.”

I like that usage…especially if the simple biological tendency of life to evolve and spread is entwined with a metaphor for human knowledge growing and building on itself as our curiosity and creativity drive it to expand ever further and encompass more and more of the universe.
